The Tower of Babel, Mystery Babylon & the Coming Kingdom of Antichrist

Gen 10:8 Cush begot Nimrod; he began to be a mighty one on the earth.
Gen 10:9 He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; therefore it is said, "Like Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD."
Gen 10:10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
Gen 10:11 From that land he went to Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah,
Gen 10:12 and Resen between Nineveh and Calah (that [is] the principal city).

In Genesis 10, we have the roll call of the nations, where we see the descendants of Noah spreading out and repopulating the earth after the flood. We see the beginning of the settlement and founding of nations and empires. As the roll call is being sounded, we come to the descendants of Cush, which literally means, "Ethiopian," for that area is where he and many of his descendants settled. One of his descendants that God wants us to pay special attention to is a man named Nimrod, "the Mighty Hunter before the Lord." Now some important facts about this man are as follows:

1. Nimrod means “rebellion or rebel.”
2. “Mighty hunter before the Lord” could also be translated, “Mighty tyrant in the face of the Lord.”
3. He hunted for man’s souls more so than animals.

This man, whose name means rebel, this rebel from the Lord leads mankind to rebel against God, build an empire with a capital city and a tower (Ziggurat), and ultimately became the archtype of the Antichrist in the Old Testament. So, who is this man, what did he do, and what does it say to us today? In order to understand him, however, you must first get acquainted with his family.

Gen 11:1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech.
Gen 11:2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there.
Gen 11:3 Then they said to one another, "Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly." They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar.
Gen 11:4 And they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth."
Gen 11:5 But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.
Gen 11:6 And the LORD said, "Indeed the people [are] one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.
Gen 11:7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech."
Gen 11:8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.
Gen 11:9 Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth; and from there the LORD scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.

His grandfather was Noah's son, Ham. Noah, after the flood got drunk and naked. Ham scoffed at his father's nakedness and God cursed him. Nimrod and his family were pushing to the east when all of the sudden, he stops, rebelling against God's original command to replenish the earth, which had been repeated in Genesis 9:7, and turns back to the west. Now, his mother is a woman named Sumeramis. The following facts, taken from the book The Two Babylons, give us further clues into what is so wrong with this mysterious tower and yes, religious cult and empire that surrounded it.

1. Nimrod’s mother “Semeramis” was sexually immoral and concocted a tale that she was a virgin when she conceived him. They became worshipped as the Virgin Mother and Child. She was called “Queen of Heaven.”
2. She would later become known as “Venus.” They shrouded her worship and Nimrod’s in mystery guarded by a well-educated and celibate priesthood. They formed the 1st major world empire, and they built “Ziggurats” throughout their empire, of which the “Tower of Babel” probably was one, for people to participate in this false religion.
3. They had a triad deity – the invisible God who is never seen or worshipped, the mother and the child. This worship of mother and child spread to Egypt and took on the names Isis and Osiris. It spread into India and China, as well as Greece and Rome.
4. They began somewhere in the East and pressed westward conquering and teaching their mysteries as they went (Assyrians, Phoenicians, Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans).
5. Yes every false religious system and quest for world empire can trace its roots back to Babylon.

So, again, just who was this man Nimrod? The secular historian Justin, tells of the most ancient Assyrian King, Nimus. His story is identical to the Biblical account of Nimrod. According to Justin, this king was the first to teach mankind the art of warfare and built an army that went forth slaughtering innocents as they built this empire. So, he not only broke the first command, but also the 2nd command given in Genesis 9:6, which was to not take another human being's life. This man was wicked to the core, and the following facts show us that he became a type of the Antichrist.

1. He was an apostate from the true religion of worshipping the one true God.
2. He was a defender of the people from wild animals and was supposedly gored to death by a wild bore and laid dead for 3 days in the wilderness after which his life came back. They began to celebrate his resurrection in the Spring time by decorating eggs.
3. They celebrated his birth on December 25th with drunken orgies and decorating trees with silver and gold.
4. He was founder of the first major world empire after the flood and united man under a false religious system against God.
5. His harlot mother founded the false religion; he became the mighty leader.

Now, fast forward to Revelation 17 and 18 and compare the Mysterious Whore of Babylon with the facts we've already seen about primitive Babylon. This great whore, who can be synonymous with Semeramis, rode to power on the beast, after which the beast threw her off and claimed power for himself. Nimrod was used by Semeramis to gain worship for herself, yet he goes on to rule while she wandered the streets as a harlot for her later years. During the Tribulation, the Harlot will once again ride to power on the back of the Beast, yet the Beast will throw her off and set up worship of himself. Nimrod's governors would wear leather bands with a single horn attached, and Daniel describes the Antichrist in Daniel 7 as a little horn speaking pompous and blasphemous words.

Again, you can't get any more of a perfect type of Antichrist than was Nimrod. And you can't get a more perfect type of the Mysterious Harlot which sits on 7 hills than the Roman Catholic Church. You see, Constantine married Babylonian Paganism with Christianity in Pergamum during the 3rd Century and the Roman Church quickly became apostates and shrouded their false religion in mysteries guarded by the enlightened few. No wonder Martin Luther would directly apply Revelation 17 to the Roman Church upon his exit, saying "Rome has become the habitation of demons."

So, when you see long-time Protestants, such as Tony Blair converting to Catholicism in order to improve his standing within the European Union (BTW, he's currently the EU's ambassador to the Middle East with his office in Jerusalem.), it makes you wonder if he might be pushing another agenda. He has been touted as a possible 1st permanent President of the EU, and he along with Fmr. Pres. Bush authored the "Roadmap to Peace." We do indeed see the pieces of the prophetic puzzle coming together and can't help but believe that our redemption is indeed drawing nigh.

Satan has tried for over 6,000 years now to turn man against God and unite man against God. Man in his depravity has fell for it hook, line and sinker. He in his futility has tried and will continue to try to create a Utopia on earth without God, so he can live forever in his sin. But just as God confused the languages during Nimrod's day and thwarted that vain attempt, he will bring Babylon down in 1 day again in the Tribulation period. God is in control! Christ will win and we will win b/c we'll rule and reign with Him! MARANATHA! EVEN SO COME LORD JESUS!!!
