A Mountain Cast Into the Sea!
From FoxNews.com
Surprise Asteroid Makes Near-Miss of Earth
Monday, March 02, 2009
Did you hear that whooshing sound?
A small asteroid buzzed by Earth Monday, though only real astronomy geeks in the Pacific would have noticed.
The rock, estimated to be no more than 200 feet wide, zoomed past our planet at an altitude of 40,000 miles at 1:44 p.m. universal time — or 8:44 EST.
Dubbed 2009 DD45, it was discovered only on Friday by Australian astronomers.
Forty thousand miles may sound like a lot, but it's only about one-seventh of the way to the moon, and less than twice as far out as many telecommunications satellites.
Had 2009 DD45 hit the Earth, it would have exploded on or near the surface with the force of a large nuclear blast — not very reassuring when you consider humanity had only about three days' notice.
According to the Australian news Web site Crikey, the asteroid is likely to be drawn in by Earth's gravity, meaning it may return for many more near misses in the future.
According to a recent news article, an asteroid, nearly the size of a football field passed within 40,000 miles of planet earth. The strange thing was that it was undetected until 3 days prior to passing within earth's orbit. According to the article, had it hit, it would have been the same effect as if a large nuclear blast had gone off. Interestingly enough, there have been "Near Misses" many times in recent years - 1972, 2001, 2002, 2007, and 2008 to name a few. Scientist also predict a major asteroid will be passing within earth's orbit in the year 2029.
Now, imagine an asteroid much larger than this one hitting the earth. The Bible says that a mountain (could be an asteroid the size of a mountain) will be cast into the sea, during the Tribulation Period.
Rev 8:8 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;
Rev 8:9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.
If a much smaller asteroid could inflict the damage of a large nuclear bomb, imagine what this one will do. You would see the trees catching fire as the blazing asteroid made its way to the earth. You would have many tidal waves upon impact, and much of the seashore would be wiped out. You would see volcanoes erupting, and there would be many aftershocks as earth tectonic plates would be shifting after the impact. The Bible says that 1/3 of the sea will become as blood and 1/3 of the creatures in the sea will die. Furthermore, the shipping industry and naval fleets will be decimated as 1/3 of the ships will be destroyed. It will definitely be a frightening time.
But friends, you don't have to be afraid! God is in control, and if you're saved He will take care of you. We are not appointed for a day of wrath. And even if an asteroid hits, we are still on the winning side. God is with us and for us. He will take care of us. We need to simply stand still and see the salvation of the Lord! And if you don't know Christ personally, your time is running out! Repent of your sin and trust Christ as your Savior today! Surrender to Him as Lord! We don't have a lot of time to waste. And saved friend, tell others about Him. Our time is running out to see our lost loved one's come to faith in Him. We don't know what a day might bring, so we must live for Him, and work for Him while we have time! Take Care! Maranatha!
